This is Wendy, and this is her story: "I was born and raised in Kenya and moved to the United States. Back home, I was a runner. But, my lifestyle slowly began to change when I moved to America. One morning bout 8 years ago, I woke up and could not fit into my jeans; my zipper had ripped. I looked at myself in the mirror, and I could not recognize myself anymore. I had gained weight without noticing. To make matters worse, I was diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia, had abnormally low red and white blood cell counts and low platelet counts. My hair used to fall out, and my nails used to break off. My doctor wasn’t sure how a person of my age could have these problems. So, they prescribed me a bunch of medication that made my medicine cabinet look like an 80 year old lady’s. This was my wakeup call. I told myself I need to start being active again, like I was back home in Kenya. I decided to go out for a walk, and to my surprise, I walked twelve miles without even realizing it. I was determined. I changed my diet. I stopped buying frozen dinners, and my boyfriend and I made our own home-cooked meals, together. I work out diligently every single day. My hair is full, and my nails are strong. I am strong, and I will carry this determination with me for the rest of my life." #featurefriday
